2025 was the year the Epic Games Store officially expanded its free game policy to mobile platforms. The familiar routine of claiming free PC games was finally brought to our phones. 1. The Early Phase: Building Your Library (Jan - Apr)

While we are accustomed to the weekly rotation now, the initial strategy was a bit different. From January to April, once a game went free, it remained available for an extended period. As the mobile store had just launched, the focus seemed to be on user acquisition and helping players build their initial libraries.

Looking at the full list of games, a clear pattern emerges. Instead of demanding AAA titles, the focus was heavily on puzzles, story-driven adventures, and high-quality indie games.

Titles like LIMBO, Loop Hero, and Dead Cells are prime examples. The curation felt intentionally focused on games that are comfortable to play in short sessions with touch controls.

4. An Indie Game Starter Kit

If you followed the giveaways throughout 2025, you probably noticed certain series making frequent appearances, such as the Monument Valley and Samorost series.

The back-to-back releases from Amanita Design were particularly notable. From Machinarium to Botanicula, Chuchel, and Pilgrims, it felt like building a dedicated puzzle-adventure collection. In short, 2025 offered an excellent indie game starter kit.
